Just Effin Ebay It Jenkins

If anyone hears of a rackmount server going cheap (or even cheaper!), lemme know, 'kay? Woudn't have to be anything fancy.

What's your minimum spec and maximum number of U? I might be able to sort something...

Well, I've got the Dennis Hoppertunity to make use of some rackspace. I was thinking it could replace the current jenkster.com server. So anything <=3U would be fine, and anything >16Mb RAM would be an improvement! [grin]

So a dual processor 1.5Gb RAM, Raid 5, 76Gb disk, 5U server wouldn't be of interest on account of it being too bloody big?

Actually I think I have a couple of other possibilities with slightly less power, but they are still 5 U...

Never let it be said that 'avin it large was a problem. [grin]

How much we (jive) talkin'?

Submitted by Kris on Tue, 2004-11-23 17:32.

How much you offering? I'm open to (sensible) offers. Can't offer an OS or a guarantee though. Other than to say it's been a live server for at least 4 years and was reasonably stable (NT4 permitting) up to retirement a couple of months back. The OS, I assume, isn't a problem either give that I suspect you'll head down the Linux route?

Do you have a preference for Dell or Compaq?

Submitted by JD (not verified) on Wed, 2004-11-24 08:42.

Erm...Dell slightly. You're right about the OS thing. And as for a price, I'm not sure - neither I nor my wallet was expecting a response so fast...

Dell it is. And I can hold on to the server for as long as you like. You could even collect on the 19th if you like [wink]
As for cost, shall we continue that discussion away from these here comments?

Does anybody else find these "geekpost" threads rather dull?

I know I do...

I came here for the Kris. I stayed for the Geekpost threads.

Brian, that is precisely why they are clearly marked as geekposts. Would you rather a sign saying, "Beware of the Leopard"?

Submitted by Kris on Thu, 2004-11-25 10:19.

Yes.

Satisfied?

Submitted by Kris on Thu, 2004-11-25 16:25.

But where are the spots?
