Dannan Blankety-Blank

Ladies and gentlemen, never let it be said that the people are not the might. It's time for a new poll, and this one could affect someone's entire life. But first, let's round up the previous poll.

Not surprisingly, no-one here would take life advice for Mr Blair or Mr Howard, and very few would be foolish enough to let Anne Widdecombe into their house, let alone their lives. I was pleased to see that the drinking, smoking, acerbic powerhouse that was Winston Churchill took an early lead, but it's only appropriate that Robin Cook finished in the position of highest honour. He seemed a very decent man, and we can ill-afford to lose good politicians. Mr Cook, we the Café salute you the only way we know how. With votes.

So, on to poll-y matters of great pith and moment. The Dannans:

...are having a baby, and accordingly, they're having naming dilemmas. It's up to us to help them. Eyes left please, and vote for one boy's and one girl's name. Remember, if you pick the name they finally use, Laura Dannan will personally weave your first born child into straw. Or something like that...

Anyhoot, if you're wondering how to pronounce Dannan, here's a helpful rhyme:

Though I don't know a Dannan,
I heard about them through my WAN,
And when that Kris, a poll he ran,
I asked advice from my old man.

Please, vote. Hir future is in your hands.

I confess myself a little disappointed not to find Engleberta on the girls list.

You need yourself a third daughter, Dragon Mama. And won't that make Alix and Tiphaine jealous.

In all fairness I couldn't create such dissension between my daughters. Which was the reason that we didn't christen either girl Engleberta. With our first daughter we knew that we'd never find another name as good and all subsequent children would feel less valued. For our second, we didn't want to make our first feel less special.
