Thank you Jim. But I think

Thank you Jim. But I think it's time we got back on topic. Anyone here not bought a house and then died of a brain hemorrhage?

Ah, hello James. I take it

Ah, hello James. I take it you're back then? Good-oh.
Mama Cass is a legend? Well, it had me fooled.
And I'm annoyed that bug's back. Turns out it's a cache problem, which explains why I - the uncached Administrative user - couldn't see it. I'll switch the cache off for now and see what I can do to fix things. Maybe I can load the cookie'd values using Javascript or something.

Mama Cass, actually, didn't choke to death on a sandwich - that was a misreport/urban legend.

Much more interestingly, when I loaded up this page to comment, it thought I was someone called 'Lou'. Why has someone called 'Lou' been using my computer in my absence?

Curiously I'm remembered as

Curiously I'm remembered as Ann Onymous.
I like this post lots. Much the same as Kris, I'm terrified home-ownership will turn us into dull, decreative people who are only capable of discussing mortgages. But only we can do that to ourselves...

I think 50% counts Steve,

I think 50% counts Steve, but you'd be better off with 51%. Then you'd have a house majority...

Home ownership a joy soon to

Home ownership a joy soon to be discovered by myself if 50% counts and if a certain housing association ever decides to purchase the block in which i want to reside... Still, i'm looking forward to it

Kris! Something strange has

Kris! Something strange has occurred. The computer is 'remember me'ing me with Becky's details....name/ email/ website all filled in for me. Now I'm not normally tempted to participate in identity theft hence I have deleted said details.

Just know that I COULD have.

That surely must get me some brownie points with the Karma police??!

Home Ownership

Oscar Wilde owned a house. So did Stuart Wilde for that matter. Eric Clapton owns several. John Lennon bought one that said 'Yes' to him.

The Queen is a famed home-owner; Weird Al Yankovich is not, but he owns one anyway. John, John and the Band of Dans from They Might Be Giants - as far as I am aware - have all purchased them, and Richard O' Brien is a known occupier of purchased abodes.

All the while, several of my friends have purchased property and gone on to lead happy and fulfilling lives, without detriment to their civil, emotional or spiritual liberty. Their statutory rights were not affected.
Equally, many of my acquaintences have invested in brick 'n mortar and yet still continued to produce valuable works of art, literature, comedy and fine-wine appreciation.

Jesus grew up in at least one home, and while the Buddha eschewed possions in general, his beef was not with domiciley-structures per-se.

Most-if-not-all of history's saints, leaders and rock-legends have met their grisley ends in ways that were in no way related to the attainment of a roof over their heads. Joan of Arc died "at a stake", not "in an estate". Hitler met his maker, ultimately because he invaded Poland - not because he failed to put down a sufficient deposit.
Mama Cass choked to death on a chicken sandwich, not a sudden hike in her variable-rate mortgage; Jimi Hendrix due to drugs, not ground rent; and while Elvis did die on his toilet, it was not because said toilet was too small to ensure adequate resale value.

In short, ladies and gentlemen, if the primary fears of your life are being run over by a bus, falling off the Canary Wharf tower, or being eaten alive by a surprisingly real edition of Jaws 3D, home ownership should bring you scarce few night-terrors.

Good luck.
